Parish Letter

From The Vicarage:  Called by God

Dear Friends,

September is often the time for new things. If you have children or grandchildren of school age, it is a time for new shoes, new pens, new classes.

For our Church Magazine, September is a time for ending. This will be the last magazine. Though it is sad to see an ending, I praise God for everyone who has helped make it happen in the past and up to this date. I wonder how many people have read a St George's magazine over the years? It must be in the thousands.

When we knew that the magazine could not continue, we started thinking about what next. I wanted to ensure some way of communicating with those beyond our Sunday and mid-week congregations. We are looking at the possibility of a regular newsletter – something fairly easy to produce with low cost so that we can distribute them free of charge. So “watch this space” as they say!

An important part of being a Church of England parish is that St George's is here for all. I hope a newsletter can help us express that, by sharing church life and God's good news far and wide. Forms of communication change; the truth found in Jesus Christ is eternal and it is the very nature of being a Christian that we want everyone to know!

My thanks to Daphne Capps and Sarah Davison as the last custodians of the magazine. As the apostle Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 15, “your labour in the Lord is not in vain!” Every blessing that has come from the Lord through the magazine will bear fruit that lasts for ever.
